A rally of solidarity with the people of Venezuela, who have been subjected to brutal imperialist aggression, was held in the Moscow City Committee of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation (CPRF). Dmitry Novikov, Deputy Chairman of the CPRF Central Committee and First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs, participated in the event.
Along with the Russian communists, the meeting was attended by Enrique Horta González, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Cuba, and staff of the Venezuelan Embassy. Among those gathered were Palestinian and Syrian representatives, Russian students, and young Venezuelans studying in our country. The meeting was moderated by Darya Bagina, First Secretary of the Moscow City Committee of the Leninist Young Communist League of the Russian Federation.
Fifteen participants spoke during the roundtable. Dmitry Novikov opened the meeting. The Deputy Chairman of the CPRF Central Committee directly described Trump’s actions to capture Nicolás Maduro and his wife as banditry. Particular attention was paid to familiarizing those present with the CPRF’s position, as set out in the Central Committee’s documents.
All meeting participants were united in expressing solidarity with the people of Venezuela. At a time when the United States, led by Trump, is attacking the Bolivarian Republic, it is crucial to galvanize a widespread public movement against Washington’s aggressive line. The increasingly cynical trampling of international justice must be broadly rebuffed.
In his closing remarks, Dmitry Novikov recalled the demands of Russian communists, as set out in the CPRF Central Committee’s statement, “Aggression against Venezuela is an absolute crime of US imperialism!” The approaches of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation are set out in the statement with the utmost clarity. The Central Committee of the Party insists on:
– an unconditional end to US military aggression against the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela;
– the immediate release of President Nicolás Maduro and his wife;
– a complete cessation of any external interference in Venezuela’s internal affairs;
– an international investigation into US criminal actions and the prosecution of those responsible;
– the principled position and active role of all countries in defending Venezuela’s sovereignty.
The event concluded with a performance by the Grenada ensemble. Its members performed well-known songs of Latin American patriots.
