Elena Panina about the “Japanese” with the Kuriles: it looks like a stuffing, the USA fears good relations between the Russian Federation and Japan

Information about the inclusion of the inhabitants of the South Kuril Islands to the Japanese in the rules on the drawing of American green cards may be a deliberate throw-in against the background of Washington’s fears that after a possible “reset” of relations between the United States and China, Japan will want to improve relations with Russia, a member of the committee on international affairs told RIA Novosti. Elena Panina.

Earlier, the Japanese newspaper Hokkaido Shimbun drew attention to the fact that for many years the United States has considered Russians born in the southern Kuriles to be natives of Japan – this is stated in the rules for drawing green cards published on the website of the State Department. After this publication, the Russian Foreign Ministry stated that such a position of the US State Department casts doubt on the results of the war and encourages revanchism.

Panina urged to think about why such a record appeared on the website of the State Department several years ago, and this topic began to be discussed only now.

“This is very similar to a deliberate stuffing. In a situation where the American establishment is preparing to” reset “relations with China, Washington fears that Japan will want to improve relations with Russia,” Panina said.

The MP stressed that the United States often acts on the principle of “divide and rule”.

“The Americans want the agenda of Russian-Japanese relations to be determined exclusively by the topic of disputes over the South Kurils, which would overlap the discussion of the possibilities of bilateral cooperation,” Panina said.

She recalled that there is a huge potential in relations between Moscow and Tokyo, which has not yet been revealed, and it is in the interests of both countries to realize it on a mutually beneficial basis, without paying attention to provocative stuffing. “
