Elena Panina: “American sanctions against China look ridiculous”

American sanctions against Chinese officials for oppressing the Uighurs look particularly ridiculous against the background of interracial conflicts in the United States, restrictions imposed against China are designed to continue the trade war, and not to protect national minorities, told RIA Novosti member of the State Duma committee on international affairs Elena Panina.

US President Donald Trump on Wednesday signed a law to protect the rights of Uyghurs in China, which provides for the imposition of sanctions against Chinese officials, the press service of the White House.

According to Panina, such a practice is another fact of US interference in the internal affairs of other states.

“However, against the background of ongoing interracial conflicts and unrest in the United States, Washington’s accusations against Beijing of persecuting national minorities look especially ridiculous and comical,” the deputy said.

In her opinion, the sanctions are a continuation of the trade war against China, and the main motive in this case is not the protection of ethnic Uyghurs, but exclusively the economic and geopolitical interests of the United States.

“Along with Taiwan and Hong Kong, Xinjiang is one of China’s pain points that the US will continue to push during the“ new cold war ”between Washington and Beijing,” Panina said.

Western countries and various humanitarian organizations often criticize the actions of the Chinese authorities in relation to the Muslim population of Xinjiang, to which official Beijing replies that Uigurs in the “re-education centers” get the new skills they need in order to find a good job and not be influenced by radical fundamentalism.
