Ukraine is at the epicenter of the sanction war between the European Union and Russia, the economy of this country may be the most affected side, RIA Novosti said Elena Panina, member of the State Duma’s international affairs committee, commenting on the words of the European Parliament deputy chairman about the ineffectiveness of EU sanctions against Russia.
Earlier, Fabio Massimo Castaldo, deputy chairman of the European Parliament, a prominent figure in Italy’s 5-star movement Fabio Massimo Castaldo, said in an interview with RIA Novosti that the EU’s anti-Russian sanctions have been ineffective and seriously damaged European economies, but they can hardly be expected to be revised in the near future.
MP Panin believes that for the first time such a frank assessment of the consequences of anti-Russian sanctions came from the lips of a European official of such a high level. At the same time, according to the politician, the ruling circles of the European Union should think about what damage the sanctions inflict on Ukraine itself, for which, according to official statements, they were introduced.
“Being at the epicenter of the sanctions war between the EU and Russia, Ukraine is suffering enormous damage. Perhaps, in the near future, it will be revealed through objective calculations that the Ukrainian economy is the most affected in this story,” Panina said.
The deputy added that Ukrainian products are not in demand in European markets, and the Russian market for it is largely lost. According to her, now the best that European politicians can do, not only for Ukraine, but also for their countries, is to end the sanctions war with Russia and restore the normal functioning of international economic relations.
