The statement of the former US ambassador to Ukraine Stephen Pfeiffer that US President Biden is ready to push Ukraine towards reforms in a tough form is an eloquent acknowledgment of Kiev’s loss of a significant part of its sovereignty, Elena Panina, a member of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs, told RIA Novosti.
Earlier, Pfeiffer expressed the opinion that Biden is ready to “push” Ukraine towards reforms and, “perhaps even sometimes in a harsh manner. He stressed that this would be beneficial for Ukraine in any case, even if not everyone welcomes the pressure from Washington. Kiev, in his opinion, “needs to take advantage of the opportunities” to consolidate reforms and take real measures to curb corruption.
“It’s scary to imagine if a Russian diplomat said that Moscow is pushing someone to something in a“ tough form and with good goals. ”However, for the United States, all this is in the order of things,” Panina said.
The deputy stressed that the American diplomat recognizes the presence of regular pressure on Kiev, “communicating with him as a colonial appendage.” In this regard, the parliamentarian asked whether the Ukrainian authorities would protest against such an appeal, whether the “Ukrainian nationalists” fed by Western grants would be indignant.
“The statement of ex-Ambassador Pfeiffer is an eloquent recognition of the fact that Ukraine has lost a significant part of its sovereignty and is under the external control of the United States,” Panina stated.
