Elena Panina on 17-state support for Texas suit: this is an application for special political opinion

The collective “demarche” of the republican states and their joining the Texas lawsuit to review the presidential election is a serious application for a dissenting political opinion, such a decision should be taken seriously, since federalism is of great importance in American politics, Elena told RIA Novosti Panin.

Earlier it was reported that 17 US states, where Republicans are in power, sent a document to the Supreme Court, which supported Texas’s claim to revise the presidential election, the text is posted on the court’s website.

According to Panina, now the lawsuit should be taken seriously, since American federalism is “one of the cornerstones of the US political system.”

“The entire Midwest and a significant part of the South have stood up for (current President Donald) Trump, such a request cannot be simply ignored. In this situation, it is logical that the US Supreme Court accepted the suit for consideration. This is not only a political dispute, but a question of respect for opinion states, which means the issue of the country’s unity “, – said the deputy.

Panina emphasizes that a few days before the convening of the electoral college, Trump changed tactics, “betting on conservative” regional elites “as opposed to the” Washington swamp. ”

“The current head of the White House understands that the federal establishment as a whole is opposed to him, and regardless of party affiliation. However, at the state level, the situation is different, regional-level Republican politicians are ready to sign for Trump in droves,” Panina said.

“The collective demarche of the conservative states is, of course, not a ‘new Confederation’, but at least a serious application for a special political opinion. ‘Deep America’ has shown that it is ready to challenge the Washington establishment,” the politician stated.

Earlier, the Texas authorities filed a lawsuit demanding to invalidate the results of the presidential elections in the four “wavering states” that helped Democrat Joe Biden win. In the lawsuit, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton claims that the voting in the states of Pennsylvania, Georgia, Wisconsin and Michigan took place in violation of the constitution, as their authorities illegally changed electoral legislation under the pretext of the coronavirus pandemic.

According to preliminary results, Democrat Biden won the presidential election, but Trump does not recognize the results and is challenging them in courts.
