Elena Panina: “Our country is not obliged to provide financial support to speculators on the topic of ecology”

Russia announced its accession to the Paris Agreement, but we must understand that Russia is ready to create clean technologies for industrial production, but our country is not obliged to provide financial support to speculators on the topic of ecology. State Duma deputy Elena Panina (United Russia) discusses this in a publication dedicated to the 15th anniversary of the entry into force of the Kyoto Protocol.

The politician emphasized that environmental pollution is indeed a serious problem of our time. However, one should not allow covering good interests of mercenary interests when “air trading” began to bring millions of dollars to businessmen.

“There is only one way out: in the development and implementation of advanced technologies, environmentally friendly production, new energy sources, environmentally friendly methods of waste disposal (not following the example of incinerators). And this requires serious investment in fundamental and applied science, in the real sector of the economy, in all spheres of human life.

The experience of the Kyoto Protocol, unfortunately, taught a lesson not learned by the world: it is extremely important to distinguish between real economic measures to improve the environmental situation and financial scams that hide behind climate concerns.”
