Elena Panina: “Parliamentarians must fight for the prevention of the use of force in conflicts between countries”

Parliamentarians must fight for peace and for preventing the use of force in conflicts between states. This was stated on June 5 by the member of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs Elena Panina. She spoke in the margins of the International Forum “Development of parliamentarism” in the framework of the work of the section “Strengthening international security: the role of parliaments”.

“It is the struggle for peace, for the non-use of military force in the emergence of conflict situations, which should become one of the most important areas of interparliamentary cooperation,” Panina said.

She stressed that today the world has come close to the point of the emergence of a global military conflict: “The worst thing is that military force as an argument becomes familiar. Constantly emerging conflicts today are not perceived in the world as something extraordinary. ”

The deputy noted that she can not help worrying about the narrowing of the field of traditional diplomacy, in the place of which comes the microphone and megaphone diplomacy. “Moreover, today in the course of swearing, insults, which a few years ago, you could have heard only in a closed company, and then in an indecent society,” Panina said.

According to her, in the modern world there are new threats to international security, and to overcome them, a constant dialogue of parliamentarians of all countries is needed. “I believe that the parliaments of the world should become a driving belt for the revival of a powerful peace movement, because we are elected by people, and they entrusted us with their voice,” Panina said.

She believes that the more problems, the more often it is necessary to resort to constructive negotiations of parliamentarians.
