The speech of Russian President Vladimir Putin at the UN was aimed at maintaining global equilibrium, in contrast to the “non-gentlemanly” behavior of the West, said Elena Panina, a member of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs.
Putin spoke on Tuesday at the 75th session of the UN General Assembly.
“Against the backdrop of, to put it mildly,” non-gentlemanly “behavior of the West, Putin again calls for the preservation of international instruments for maintaining global equilibrium, the creation of which humanity came with such difficulty and at the cost of huge sacrifices,” Panina told RIA Novosti.
According to the politician, the Russian leader gave a reasoned answer to everyone who would like to devalue and belittle the significance of the security architecture that emerged after World War II.
“We have before us the most ambitious understanding of the foreign policy experience of mankind in the format of a public speech over the past 100 years, since the creation of the League of Nations. Therefore, the significance of what has been said is very great. The UN Security Council destroys the effectiveness of the UN and turns it into a kind of amorphous League of Nations, which could not prevent World War II, while the current rules allowed to keep the peace even in the hottest years of the Cold War. It is very important that the President of the Russian Federation reminded everyone of this to the world community, “the parliamentarian said.
The politician also noted that in the 70s and 80s of the twentieth century, it was the United States that used the veto most actively, and the USSR did not try to take it away from the American side.
