Deliberate and planned hostile actions against the Russian Federation, together with the growth of Russophobia in the media, in the speeches of officials, threaten global security, Elena Panina, a member of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs, told RIA Novosti.
Earlier, the American magazine The National Interest wrote that emergencies and misunderstandings between the military could lead to an armed conflict between Russia and NATO. Panina noted that it is quite possible to agree with the thesis of the American edition, such things are obvious to everyone.
“In this context, a natural question arises: why, then, NATO warships and aircraft, primarily the United States, regularly invade the territorial waters and airspace of the Russian Federation? Does the American side understand what these provocations can lead to?” – she noted.
The politician recalled that recently the US actions have become even more aggressive and demonstrative. The invasion of the destroyer John McCain into Russian internal waters was made with a very specific goal – to call into question the sovereignty of the Russian Federation over this water area, Panina said.
“Deliberate and planned hostile actions against the Russian Federation, together with the whipping up of confrontational rhetoric, the unprecedented growth of Russophobia in the media, in the speeches of officials, threaten global security. Maybe it’s time for the West to realize this and behave more correctly?” she added.
Earlier, the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation reported that a US Navy destroyer entered Russian territorial waters in the Peter the Great Gulf for two kilometers. After receiving a warning from the large anti-submarine ship of the Russian Pacific Fleet “Admiral Vinogradov”, the American ship immediately went into neutral waters. The American Seventh Fleet responded by stating that the John McCain was not “expelled” from any country. The destroyer allegedly carried out an operation there to ensure freedom of navigation.
