The hopes of Ukrainians that President Volodymyr Zelenskyy will end the war and make Ukraine a prosperous European state have not come true, the country is “plunging into a militaristic psychosis,” State Duma deputy Elena Panina told RIA Novosti.
Earlier, the Ukrainian newspaper “Strana”, having analyzed the new national strategy of military security of Ukraine, came to the conclusion that Zelensky instructed citizens to prepare for a guerrilla war. The publication noted that the phrase “resistance movement” appears in the document ten times, and “territorial defense” – 34 times.
According to Panina, the presence of such assessments speaks of the manifestation of anxious expectations of the Ukrainian society.
“The hopes of millions of Ukrainians that Zelensky will end the war and turn Ukraine into a ‘cool European country’ have not come true. Instead, official Kiev refuses to comply with the Minsk agreements, escalation on the contact line is growing, the country is sinking into a militaristic psychosis,” Panina said.
Panina stressed that seven years ago, Ukrainian youth were promised a European future, and today the authorities are announcing a general mobilization.
“A difficult, oppressive atmosphere reigned in Ukraine, and Zelensky, from yesterday’s humorist who gave the public positive emotions, is turning into a character of a dark geopolitical thriller,” the parliamentarian added.
Zelensky on Thursday approved Ukraine’s military security strategy, which provides for the country’s membership in NATO, the end of the temporary “occupation” of part of the country’s territory, as well as readiness to contain aggression. The document states that “at the national level, the Russian Federation remains a military enemy of Ukraine.”
