Elena Panina: WHO exchanges its status to serve US military-political tasks

The United States is trying to use the pandemic even to address its local, tactical goals, not hesitating to use double standards. So the State Duma deputy, member of the Committee on Foreign Affairs Elena Panina (“United Russia”) commented on the information that the United States is using the World Health Organization (WHO) to restore supplies through the Al-Yarubiya border crossing in northeast Syria, which should strengthen the position of disloyal Damascus formations.

“We see how the American authorities are trying at all costs to gain a foothold in Syria, to create new prerequisites for militant activity, to exploit the resources of the oil-bearing regions illegally occupied by them. It remains only to regret that WHO joined in this activity, which, apparently, wants to recover lost funding from Washington by such actions, ”Panina emphasized.

According to the politician, the opening of one border crossing will not solve the problems of the Syrian people that arise in connection with the pandemic.

“The lifting of sanctions against Syria would lead to real results, which would enable Syrian doctors throughout the country to gain access to the necessary medicines and medical equipment. The World Health Organization should support Russian proposals to lift unilateral sanctions against Damascus, Tehran, Caracas, Pyongyang, which are now blocked by the United States and its allies.

WHO should take real care to protect the health of people in sanctioned countries, and not exchange its status to serve the immediate military and political tasks of the United States, ”Panina stated.
