Elena Strokova: “Against the backdrop of worsening relations with the EU, it is necessary to develop cross-border cooperation with EU member states”

Today the meeting of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs was devoted to cross-border cooperation between Russia and Poland and Latvia. Elena Strokova, a member of the Committee, assessed the prospects for developing interregional relations with neighboring countries – EU member states.

“Relations with these states for many reasons are at a low level, both bilateral and as the EU parts” Elena Strokova admitted. “Nevertheless, against this backdropit is relevant to stimulate cross-border cooperation, which will contribute to the economic development of the regions of Russia, and will also support cultural ties with neighboring states which is especially urgent.”
International relations at the level of regions, at the level of peoples, at the level of private contacts should be supported as a bridge to restore relations between the states in the future” – the deputy believes.
