Elena Strokova: “Ukraine liberates Russia from international legal obligations on the Crimea and Sevastopol”

The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry prepared a package of documents for the denunciation of the Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation and Partnership with Russia.

“By breaking this treaty Ukraine will not damage Russia’s foreign policy and will in no way change relations between the two countries, that havealready reached their lowest point,” said Elena Strokova, a member of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs. “However it will free Russia from unnecessary obligations that fixed the unfair establishment of borders.”

The deputy believes that by this step Ukraine practically acknowledges Crimea and Sevastopol to be Russian: “At least it will have even fewer international legal grounds to challenge the lawful return of these territories to Russia,” – Elena Strokova noted.
