Yevgeny Primakov: “For North Korea, the issue of possessing nuclear weapons and means of delivery is a matter of national security and preserving its sovereignty”

The State Duma expects that following the meeting in Vietnam, the leaders of the United States and the DPRK, Donald Trump and Kim Jong Un, will reach concrete agreements, in particular, on resolving the situation on the Korean Peninsula, and not just “shake hands with ritual”. About this in an interview with “Duma TV” said the deputy from the faction “United Russia”, a member of the Committee on International Affairs Yevgeny Primakov.

“We expect all the same that both high sides will advance in the nuclear disarmament of the Korean Peninsula, and reciprocal guarantees from the United States, because for North Korea, the issue of possessing nuclear weapons and means of delivery is a matter of national security and preserving its sovereignty,” Yevgeny Primakov.

“I believe that meetings of this level usually do not occur without careful preparation and, most likely, there will be some preparations, there will be agreed decisions from the two sides, otherwise it’s some kind of ritual shaking hands and joint photography,” the deputy added.

According to Primakov, without prior agreement, Donald Trump and Kim Jong-un “are unlikely (…) to go to such a merely worthless event.”

According to Tass, North Korea’s leader Kim Jong-un has already arrived in Hanoi. February 27-28, there will be a US-DPRK summit. This will be the second meeting of the leaders of the United States and North Korea. The first in the history summit between the two countries was held in June last year in Singapore.
