Irina Rodnina appreciates Canadian’s idea to tighten rules for Russian figure skaters

Meagan Duhamel has once again called for a ban on Russian figure skaters who have changed their citizenship from training in their home country. Irina Rodnina said that this would be a violation of all rights, and the Canadian has no authority

The Canadian champion of the 2018 Games in the team event Meagan Duhamel, who proposed tightening the conditions for Russian figure skaters when changing citizenship, is simply “itching to speak out”, three-time Olympic champion and State Duma deputy Irina Rodnina told Vseprosport.

Earlier, Duhamel said on the social network X that Russians who have changed citizenship should train in the country they will now represent, noting that this proposal concerns specifically former Russians due to the disqualification by the International Skating Federation (ISU).

Rodnina believes that Duhamel’s opinion is not authoritative. “If we don’t listen to Thomas Bach, then what can we say about her. This is a violation of all rights, but apparently she did not study much, she only trained,” Rodnina said.

According to Rodnina, Duhamel cannot help but know that in Canada “half of Europe trains” in special international centers, since she herself trained in such centers.
