Vyacheslav Nikonov: “We don’t need either the West, or the East, or Asia. We’re home”

Chairman of the Board of the Russkiy Mir Foundation Vyacheslav Nikonov welcomed everyone who was not afraid to come to the XV Assembly of the Russian World. “You are a huge world, you represent the whole universe of the Russian world,” he addressed those present in the hall.

Vyacheslav Nikonov read out greetings to the participants of the assembly from Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation Mikhail Mishustin and Chairman of the State Duma of the Russian Federation Vyacheslav Volodin.

The chairman of the board of the Russkiy Mir Foundation noted that the Russian language has survived, despite the fact that real repressions fell on it in the countries of the former socialist camp, in many CIS countries, and in Ukraine the Russian language is generally banned.

“The Russian world is the world of the Russian soul and the great Russian culture, which is also being repressed and trying to be abolished,” said Vyacheslav Nikonov. However, he added, by canceling Dostoevsky, Tchaikovsky, Tolstoy, by canceling our culture, the West is canceling itself.

“We have always been and will be a great Russia. We don’t need the West, the East, or Asia. We’re home. And you are at home, because you are a part of the great Russian civilization,” Nikonov said. “We are a huge Euro-Pacific civilization that offers meaning and values to the world.”

The Russkiy Mir Foundation is already 16 years old. Nikonov recalled that Lyudmila Alekseevna Verbitskaya was at the origins of the fund. “I am sure that today the soul of Lyudmila Alekseevna is with us,” he said. “Let’s thank her together.”
