Sergei Zhelenyak: “Demands to release the Russian oppositionist and introduce new sanctions against Russia, which are heard from Western politicians, are illegal in nature”

“The demands to release the Russian non-systemic oppositionist and to introduce new sanctions against Russia, which sound from Western politicians, are illegal, are an attempt to put pressure on the judicial system and gross interference in the internal affairs of the Russian Federation.” This was stated by Sergey Zheleznyak, a member of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs.

He stressed: “Those who from abroad call on Russia to the rule of law and respect for human rights should first pay attention to these problems in their countries, where protesters are dispersed with water cannons, tear gas and rubber bullets, and those who are trying to achieve the truth – persecuted and imprisoned. Western advocates for the ideals of democracy should point out their gross violations of human rights against Russian and their own citizens, as well as illegal persecution of independent journalists and other egregious facts of lawlessness. ”

The politician noted: “The European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg did not find any political overtones in the Yves Rocher case. We respect international law and have repeatedly proved this in practice, but our country has a Constitution and laws, before which everyone must be equal.

Unlike many other countries, Russian legislation is more humane, including providing for the possibility of replacing a real prison term with a suspended one, provided that the convicted person observes the rules of law.
Multiple violations of the suspended sentence in any state would lead to legal consequences.

This whole story testifies to the fact that the Russophobic West chose the “German patient” as a puppet in its dirty game against our country.

The international community should not succumb to provocations and humbly follow the lead of anti-Russian forces.”
