Sergey Zheleznyak: “An important result of the summit of the leaders of Russia, Iran and Turkey was a common understanding of the unacceptability of any provocations and external pressure on sovereign Syria”

An important outcome of the Russia, Iran and Turkey summit in Tehran was a common understanding of the unacceptability of any provocations and external pressure on Syria, primarily by the United States, said Sergey Zheleznyak, a member of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs.

On Friday, Tehran hosted talks between the leaders of Russia, Turkey and Iran Vladimir Putin, Recep Erdogan and Hassan Rouhani.

“The third summit of the leaders of Russia, Iran and Turkey was very constructive and became the most important “time correction” of the guarantor countries of the Syrian settlement at a turning point, when the issue of the final destruction of the terrorist nest in Idlib is so acute. Our coalition actually gave the terrorists in Syria the last chance to surrender arms and stop resistance. The important outcome of the summit was a common understanding of the unacceptability of any provocations and external pressure on sovereign Syria, primarily on the part of the United States and their satellites, whose presence on the territory of the country is recognized as illegal, – Zheleznyak said in the message of his press service.

According to the politician, the summit also showed Russia’s leading role in coordinating international activities on the Syrian peace process, including in preserving the political unity and integrity of Syria.

He also noted that successful cooperation of the three countries in Syria demonstrates to the world how any international tasks can be solved only on the basis of respect, trust and constructive cooperation. “After the final defeat of the terrorists, this mutual understanding will allow us to start joint implementation of humanitarian projects, restore the destroyed infrastructure of the country and socio-economic life in Syria, returning the Syrians to their homes,” Zheleznyak stressed.

“The consolidation of the principles of further political settlement within the framework of the Astana format in the Tehran communique and the readiness to contribute to the final formation of the constitutional committee will undoubtedly have a positive impact on the political processes and preparations for free elections in Syria,” he added.

In addition, he said, Western countries in turn should show political will and provide the Syrian people with real help.
