Sergei Zheleznyak commented on the results of the discussion of the heads of the EU regarding Russia

“The results of the discussion of the heads of the European Union regarding Russia at the extraordinary summit are formal. The next condemnation of some “destructive” actions of Russia without any specifics and evidence, as well as the expressed support for the Czech Republic in its inadequate anti-Russian demarche, are obviously an expression of the EU’s unity. ” This is how Sergei Zheleznyak, a member of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs, commented on the results of the EU summit.

According to the politician: “At the same time, the European Union voices the need for a dialogue with our country on strategic issues affecting the interests of the EU. European countries are well aware that Russia is a key participant in international processes, especially those taking place in the Euro-Asian region. Duplicity of our western neighbors has long become the norm for them. Brussels uses unfounded accusations against Russia, Western espionage mania, unjustified anti-Russian sanctions and political blackmail at the direction of Washington in the hope of restraining the development of cooperation between our country and other states. At the same time, economic ties broken through the fault of Western partners negatively affect the interests of their own citizens. But the inertia of European officials and the unjustified ambitions of individual Western politicians do not allow them to follow in the mainstream of elementary logic and common sense.

Another depth of misunderstanding and mistrust in the EU should be expected in the new report of the head of European diplomacy, who was tasked with preparing a document on relations with Russia. Judging by the rhetoric of Mr. Borrel, one should not count on cardinal positive shifts towards the development of Russian-European cooperation. “
