Sergei Zheleznyak: “The expulsion of a number of European diplomats from Russia is a forced retaliatory step to interference in the internal affairs of our country”

“The expulsion of a number of European diplomats from Russia is a forced retaliatory step to interference in the internal affairs of our country.” This was stated by Sergey Zheleznyak, a member of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs.

“The participation of representatives of foreign diplomatic missions in uncoordinated actions in Russia is in itself unacceptable behavior for diplomatic staff and denigrates the honor of the diplomatic service. The mirror response of the countries whose representatives found themselves in the ranks of uncoordinated protest marches is inadequate and illegal, since Russian diplomats did not violate international law and the legislation of the states in which they work, ”the politician stressed.

According to the deputy: “Unfortunately, we regularly encounter unfriendly actions of our Western partners, who consider themselves entitled to dictate domestic and foreign policy to Russia. Our country, like any sovereign state, requires respect for the laws and does not accept the application of the extraterritorial principle to national legislation. Participation in unauthorized actions can be considered provocations, support for incitement to unrest, and an attempt to undermine public order in the country. Connivance to openly unfriendly behavior of foreign representatives threatens any state with the export of a “color revolution”.
