Sergei Zheleznyak: “The position of the German Chancellor regarding Nord Stream 2 remains unchanged, despite the pressure from Washington”

“The position of the German Chancellor regarding Nord Stream 2 remains unchanged, despite the pressure from Washington. It is obvious that the German authorities have the political will to defend the interests of their citizens, including in matters of energy security. Europe needs Nord Stream 2 and there is no policy in this, this project is being implemented in the interests of the people. ” This was stated by a member of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs Sergei Zheleznyak following the visit of German Chancellor Merkel to the United States.

The politician also noted that the preservation of Ukraine’s gas transit status is an attempt for the West to influence the energy system connecting Russia with Europe: “This is an attempt to come up with a certain lever of pressure on our country, but we have never refused our obligations and have always fulfilled the agreements reached. , unlike Ukraine. At the same time, it should be noted that Russia cannot be held responsible for possible problems with gas transit through the territory of Ukraine, the leadership of which has not yet given a reason to make sure that there is responsibility in politics. These risks should be taken into account by our European partners when they talk about Ukraine’s participation in transit. ”

“Russia has repeatedly proved that it has a very responsible approach to energy security issues. We are not going to arrange gas and any other blockades for Ukrainian citizens, as the Kiev authorities like to do against the people of Donbass or the Russian Crimea. As our President Vladimir Putin emphasized, Russia will never be “anti-Ukraine”, no matter how hard they try to inflate the Russophobia of the authorities in Kiev, ”Zheleznyak added.
