Sergei Zheleznyak: “The sanctions fever that has again covered the EU members may turn out to be a ricochet for the EU economy and European citizens”

Russia will be forced to respond to the unfriendly actions of European officials, ”said Sergei Zheleznyak, a member of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs, commenting on the extension of the EU’s anti-Russian sanctions.

According to the politician: “The European Union has proved its inertia and inertia by continuing its anti-Russian rhetoric and repeating the same imposing and unsubstantiated accusations against our country. Such a policy of the EU carries nothing but widening the abyss of mistrust. In conditions when the world is faced with a huge number of challenges requiring joint action, the European Union is destroying the remains of stability and is trying to split the European continent, of which Russia is an equal member ”.

“Unfortunately, EU politicians did not want to heed the reasonable proposals of Germany and France, whose leaders, though restrained, but constructively proposed to reconsider relations with Russia. It is difficult to predict to what bottom the EU-Russia bilateral relationship must reach for our European neighbors to understand that cooperation is better than confrontation. We strive for dialogue, advocate stability, offer synergy and demonstrate the utmost restraint. On the contrary, our Western opponents are trying to pressure, issue ultimatums and blackmail in various ways – from economic to military. It is obvious that the EU does not want to understand that it is impossible to force a sovereign country to change its own national interests with sanctions ”.
