“The idea of labeling all broadcast content from foreign authorities, which was proposed in the United States, creates opportunities for manipulation by the regulator and will become another lever of pressure on the media, whose point of view does not coincide with the official one in Washington.” This was stated by Sergey Zheleznyak, a member of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs.
He emphasized: “The figures obsessed with pseudo-interference from the outside on the socio-political processes in the United States are looking for new forms of restricting freedom of speech and shut the mouth of the media, which has its own view of what is happening in the world. The United States continues an information war against countries it considers to be their adversaries.
For a long time we have been observing how in the United States, first of all, Russian media are being openly persecuted, our journalists are being hindered to fulfill their professional duty, illegal restrictions are being imposed, and pressure is being exerted. American Russophobes use administrative leverage to intensify unfair competition in the media market. Obviously, the objective view of professional journalists on events in the United States and other countries of the world is not in the hands of the authorities in Washington, regardless of the name of the owner of the Oval Office. The interest of the American audience in the information materials of our journalists and the growing popularity of Russian media overseas irritate the political elite of the United States.
“In Russia, they pay attention to freedom of speech and protection of the rights of journalists.
We consider information diversity to be important and are ready to accept any sincere point of view, but we will not allow outright lies and information provocations against Russia and our citizens. Every unfriendly step towards our country must have an adequate assessment and a corresponding reaction, ”the parliamentarian added.
