Member of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs Sergey Zheleznyak commented on the situation with coronavirus:
“The proliferation of coronavirus, which WHO has declared a pandemic, demonstrates the ability of countries around the world to work together to counter the disease.
Measures to prevent the expansion of the geography of the disease and the increase in the number of cases become a litmus test in relations within the European Union, which so far has not demonstrated coordinated actions. Closing the borders that a number of countries are embarking on may possibly stop the increase in the number of cases, but this is clearly not enough to fully cope with the global problem. Countries need to join together to strengthen measures to create a vaccine for the elimination of the virus as soon as possible and share experience in effectively combating infections.
Against the background of the emergence of a deadly disease that has captured a large number of countries, it becomes obvious that humanity is facing very serious challenges that require consolidation, increased levels of trust between states and abandonment of empty political ambitions that lead to distortions in the global economy.”
