An independent international investigation is necessary to find reasons for the aggravation of situation on the border between Palestine and Israel, said Sergey Zheleznyak, a member of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs.
“Both sides should take their actions responsibly in the current situation and show political wisdom to avoid massive civilian deaths. It is highly likely that shelling was deliberately provoked by destructive forces in order to unleash a new round of confrontation in the Gaza Strip” – said Zheleznyak.
According to the politician, the diplomatic potential of Russia is one of the few efficient forces for normalizing the situation in the region, and the entire world community should pay attention to the situation.
“The international community should urgently undertake every effort to stop the current escalation of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. First of all, civilian casualties should be prevented and the mutual shelling should be stopped,” he stressed.
