Sergey Zheleznyak: “It is not appropriate for a self-respecting publication to publish inaccurate information, all the more threatening the reputation of another state”

“A self-respecting publication is not appropriate to publish inaccurate information, all the more threatening the reputation of another state. But such good-practice rules in professional journalism, apparently, do not apply to some American media, which include the New York Times. ” This was stated by a member of the State Duma Committee on Foreign Affairs, Sergei Zheleznyak, commenting on publications in an American newspaper about the alleged collusion of Russia with the Taliban.

According to the politician: “There is no and cannot be any evidence of the collusion of our country with the Taliban, some drug dealers and other detective nonsense, which is described in an American publication with reference to anonymous representatives of American intelligence. Already, the US president has admitted that information about Russia’s deal with the Taliban is a lie.

The newspaper clearly has little knowledge of the history of the issue and missed that the world community has long known that it was the American side that actively participated in financing the Taliban movement in Afghanistan, as always, clashing the interests of various groups within the war-torn country. ”

“Fake news hits the reputation of the newspaper, in which they allow themselves to spread lies, inciting hatred for our country. The publication is required to bear responsibility for replicating the fake. The American authorities should officially respond to Russia for such an aggressive act, deepening the crisis of mistrust between our countries, ”the deputy believes.
