Kiev is ready to rewrite the constitution of Ukraine and finally to deprive the country of independence in order to obtain another promise from the NATO leadership and also to try to provoke Russia, says member of the State Duma Committee on Foreign Affairs Sergei Zheleznyak.
On Monday, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko filed a bill in the Verkhovna Rada on amending the constitution to fix the country’s main course to join the EU and NATO. At the same time, Poroshenko proposes to exclude from the constitution the norm on the basing of the Black Sea Fleet of the Russian Federation. Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavel Klimkin said that the issue of deployment of NATO military bases in Ukraine could be raised on the eve of the country’s entry into the Alliance. According to him, before this the Ukrainian authorities will change the constitution.
“Each new statement by representatives of the current government of Ukraine on their readiness to join NATO and host its bases is an attempt to provoke Russia and show the West its adulation … Kiev is already ready to rewrite the country’s main law and finally deprive Ukraine of independence only to get another promise from the side the NATO leadership and to earn a handout from Western sponsors, ” said First Deputy Chairman.
At the same time, in his opinion, the main goal of the Kiev authorities is to maintain tension on the border with Russia and to fabricate new accusations against Moscow of non-existent aggression.
“Ukrainian politicians dream to see NATO ships in the Black Sea and to turn a peaceful harbor into an arena of military provocations for Russia, all of these plans will not come true. The Russian navy protects the sea borders safelyand will not allow any aggressive actions against our country, I hope, in NATO this is perfectly understood and it will not provoke Russia, “said the MP.
“We have to remind once again that Russia does not bargain on issues of national sovereignty and does not play by others’ rules,” he concluded.
