Sergey Zheleznyak: “No positive reversal in US policy towards Russia should be expected”

“One should not expect any positive turn in the US policy towards Russia. The new leadership in Washington has already indicated that it intends to appoint our country as the main opponent in the international arena, and this trend will continue in the near future. ” This was stated by Sergey Zheleznyak, a member of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs.

The politician drew attention: “The statements of the candidate for the post of the head of the Pentagon, Lloyd Austin, clearly outline a number of tasks to contain Russia. It is clear from Austin’s words that our country, according to American opponents, is a great threat that must be confronted with a “comprehensive strategy” and all possible means, including preventive ones.

The statement about the readiness to view peaceful outer space as a military foothold and intensify confrontation in cyberspace causes concern. Once again, unfounded accusations of Russia in aggression, unleashing an arms race and other propaganda nonsense are heard, which the candidate for the post of the head of the US military department intends to use as an excuse to increase pressure on our country and increase the Pentagon’s budgets. The possible head of the military department clearly indicated that the United States will restrain our country in all areas of foreign policy from the expansion of NATO and the armament of Ukraine to obstructing Russia’s steps in the Middle East.

Only one statement can be considered encouraging. It concerns the START-3 Treaty and its possible extension, which, according to Mr. Austin, is in the orbit of US interests. ”

“In general, nothing new was said in the words of the candidate for the post of head of the Pentagon – all the same fears and threats, the same formulations and cliches. As expected, the new US government will continue to follow the beaten path of confrontation with our country, creating in the eyes of the public an image of Russia as an external enemy and main aggressor, ”the parliamentarian said.
