“Statements in the US Senate made by First Deputy Secretary of State John Sullivan regarding the work of the Russian consulate in San Francisco and Russian diplomatic property are outrageous. It is worth noting that Russia was forced to respond to the unfriendly steps of the United States and bring the number of diplomatic staff into line. There is no doubt that the United States absolutely illegally seized diplomatic buildings owned by the property of the Russian Federation. Until now, Washington continues to pretend that it should be so. After peremptory statements by the representative of the State Department, it is necessary to expedite the drafting of a lawsuit by Russia against the US authorities. ” This opinion was expressed by a member of the State Duma committee on international affairs, Sergei Zheleznyak.
The politician also added: “It is absurd that Mr. Sullivan chose the way to get the post of ambassador in Moscow by attacking our country. Of course, he will like the Russophobian lobby in the Senate, but this is clearly a bad start to a career in the diplomatic mission in Russia. ”
Zheleznyak stressed: “The United States continues meaningless and destructive steps towards Russia, flagrantly violating international laws and principles of foreign policy. Such behavior is not acceptable for a civilized democratic state, which the United States considers itself, loudly declaring the inviolability of human rights, freedom of speech, inviolability of property and other fundamental and universally recognized principles. There is a favorite method of double standards by the American side and a lack of intention to overcome the crisis in bilateral relations. ”
