Sergey Zheleznyak: “The statement of the Ministry of Justice of Latvia on the donation of money to the budget of the USSR distorts reality”

“The statement of the Ministry of Justice of Latvia on the so-called donation of money to the budget of the USSR not only does not correspond to reality, but also distorts it.” This was stated by a member of the State Duma Committee on Foreign Affairs Sergey Zheleznyak.

The deputy noted: “If you look at the mean statistics (now freely available) of the difficult period for our country in the 90s, you can easily see that Latvia’s GDP per capita was 16.5, while consumption was 26.9 ! Latvia, like other Baltic republics, remained a subsidized region. Here it is fit for Russia to make claims to Latvia, which of course we will not do.

The imbalance that arose due to leveling turned the RSFSR into a real donor supporting other republics. If these statistics were officially announced on time, perhaps the republics that declared their desire to leave the Union, whose share in the world economy, according to international experts, reached almost 14%, would change their mind. ”

“The need of official Riga for financial support during the growing global crisis and the difficult situation in Europe against the backdrop of a pandemic is understandable. Obviously, countries such as Latvia will receive financial assistance in Europe on a residual basis. So the attack of the Ministry of Justice of Latvia is not just part of the anti-Russian campaign, but also an attempt to demonstrate a deep resentment against the successor of the USSR in order to get more money from the West, ”the politician added.
