Sergey Zheleznyak: “The US’s lack of ability to compete with Russian fuel is obvious to Europeans”

“Another threat from US sanctions on Nord Stream 2 is direct evidence of Washington’s lack of intent to engage in constructive dialogue not only with Russia, but also with partners in Europe.” This was stated by a member of the State Duma Committee on Foreign Affairs Sergey Zheleznyak, commenting on the statement of the US ambassador to Germany.

Politician on methyl: “Washington is determined to do everything to prevent the commissioning of the Russian-European gas project. The US’s lack of ability to compete with high-quality and inexpensive Russian fuel is obvious to Europeans.

Now, first of all, the completion date for the Nord Stream-2 depends on the position of Europe, in particular Germany. Whether the countries of Europe are able to show independence and protect their own interests before the United States will be clear in the near future. Until now, Berlin has shown a constructive approach to the implementation of the gas project, declaring its exclusively economic character. At the same time, Washington repeatedly exerted pressure on European countries, demanding to abandon the joint energy project with Russia. The United States has so far succeeded in creating the inconvenience for laying a gas pipeline by a number of Washington-controlled European countries, such as Poland or Denmark, using the stick and carrot method.

In this situation, European project participants have a chance to prove responsibility to their own citizens and effectively resist US pressure.”
