Sergey Zheleznyak: “Threats of imposing new” deadly “sanctions against Nord Stream 2 from the outgoing Trump administration are already sounding a hackneyed record”

“Threats of new“ deadly ”sanctions against Nord Stream 2 from the outgoing Trump administration are already sounding a worn-out record. It seems that the United States itself is confused about the number and strength of sanctions they are trying to apply against the Russian-European gas project. At the same time, Washington does not succeed in disrupting the completion of the project, in which Russia’s European partners are interested. In Europe, irritation is growing at American interference in internal affairs. It is obvious that the leading countries of the continent intend to more actively defend their interests, including in the field of energy security. ” This was stated by Sergey Zheleznyak, a member of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs.

He noted: “The team of the losing presidential race, Donald Trump, is trying in every possible way to demonstrate that it continues to control the situation at home and abroad, portraying fighters for American interests.
It is high time for Mr. Trump and his entourage to speak from the position of the head of state. At the same time, going into opposition to President-elect Biden, Trump will continue to put a spoke in the wheels of his political counterpart.”

The parliamentarian stressed: “The United States cannot come to terms with the fact that the Europeans do not want to overpay for American expensive gas, especially in the current conditions of the economic crisis amid a pandemic. American LNG in Europe cannot withstand direct competition with Russian energy resources. We will soon see the degree of understanding of this fact on the part of the new administration of the White House.”
“All Russian energy projects will be implemented despite constant attempts to disrupt them by the United States. At the same time, due to the time required to overcome the American pressure on the participating countries and the companies involved, the deadlines for the completion of work can objectively be shifted, ”the deputy added.
