“Poland’s voiced intention to seize the assets of the Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline is a political action that Washington entrusted to Warsaw. The Polish authorities have long been flirting with the United States, trying to earn the approval and funding of the overseas curator by supporting the anti-Russian campaign in Europe, ”said Sergei Zheleznyak, member of the State Duma’s Committee on Foreign Affairs.
The politician noted: “The US openly declares its readiness to continue pressure on Russia and our partners involved in the Nord Stream-2 project. Washington cannot accept the lack of competitiveness of LNG in Europe. Only countries that are not politically independent, such as Poland, are subject to pressure from Washington, even to the detriment of their own economies and the interests of citizens. This is clearly evidenced by the previously signed bonded 20-year contract for the supply of expensive American LNG. Other European countries, primarily Germany, clearly do not intend to switch to American fuel, realizing the benefits of direct and reliable supplies of Russian gas.
In countries of Europe such as Germany, Austria, Italy and others, where, despite blackmail and brutal US pressure, they are not politicizing the Nord Stream-2 project and are increasingly declaring the need to free themselves from Washington’s influence in order to pursue an independent policy, including in relations with our country. Independence in politics and the priority of national interests are expected by European citizens tired of vague pseudo-values and restrictive measures that are not beneficial to anyone, ”the parliamentarian said.
