Svetlana Zhurova called US sanctions a “scarecrow” for the Americans themselves

State Duma Deputy, First Deputy Chairman of the International Affairs Committee Svetlana Zhurova commented on the US intention to impose new sanctions against Russia, including against Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Earlier, the Democrats in the US Senate presented a draft law on the introduction of new sanctions against Moscow in the event of an “exacerbation of the situation” around Ukraine.

“It sounds rather strange. As if they are imposing on us that we should take some actions towards Ukraine. But we are not going to show aggression towards Ukraine in any way,” the parliamentarian noted.

In her opinion, such bills are more of a “scarecrow”, aimed at showing that the escalation of the conflict in Ukraine is already a fait accompli.

“It’s more of a ‘scarecrow.’

The deputy noted that the United States had already imposed sanctions against the top officials of other states, but “it did not bring anything in the end.”

“It was necessary only for internal use, for their people, to demonstrate how powerful they are, how great they are,” Zhurova concluded.

Earlier, the Democrats in the US Senate proposed to introduce new sanctions against Russia in case of “aggravation of the situation” around Ukraine. According to the bill, restrictions are proposed to be introduced against key sectors of the Russian economy, public debt and top officials of the state.

Press Secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov called the threat of sanctions against the Russian president “senseless pressure.”
