Svetlana Zhurova: For the IOC, the situation with Israel is out of line with the plan that was drawn

Russian State Duma Deputy Svetlana Zhurova commented on the IOC’s statement about the difference that the IOC draws between the North Military District in Ukraine and the armed conflict between Israel and the Gaza Strip.

“For them, this situation is out of line with the plan that was drawn. Therefore, they understand that Russia is knocking everything out of the picture, so it needs to be brought down somehow. But it turns out that athletes from the entire country are being expelled, and for what? For the fact that one country, on the contrary, is allowed, and they are told that athletes should not be held responsible due to the political situation,” Vprognoze.by quotes Zhurova as saying.

The IOC warned athletes against discriminating against Israeli representatives, citing that athletes should not be held responsible for the activities of their government.

At the same time, the IOC press service explained that the situation with the suspension of Russian athletes is different in that the Russian Federation violated the Olympic truce by starting the SVO in Ukraine four days after the end of the 2022 Olympics in Beijing and eight days before the start of the Paralympic Games.
