Svetlana Zhurova: They doubted the EU’s plans to send profits from Russian assets to Kyiv

First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs Svetlana Zhurova doubted that the plans of the European Union (EU) to send profits from Russian frozen assets to Kyiv could be realized. She shared her opinion in a conversation with Lenta.ru.

Earlier, the Financial Times, citing sources, reported that EU authorities plan to transfer to Ukraine the first profit from Russian assets frozen in Western countries in July 2024. We are talking about an amount of 2-3 billion euros.

The whole world looks at this and understands, here you go, protection of deposits, here you go, protection of business, here it is at work. Everyone is arrested not because people earned this money illegally, but only because they are representatives of this country. For this, please, everyone is blocked and the money is transferred to Ukraine

In addition to public dissatisfaction, she pointed out the illegality of such a procedure. “They are delaying it as long as possible because they understand that there is no legal basis for this. Only then will they themselves sign that no international law works, all conventions are worthless. It’s clear that this shouldn’t be the case,” the parliamentarian clarified.

According to the deputy, the EU will not take this step, but will continue to discuss this issue for a long time. “They scare and scare, and in the end they mislead Ukraine, saying that they will do this. How long have they been saying this? In the end, they don’t do it, realizing that as soon as peace negotiations begin, they won’t be able to do it.”
