State Duma deputy Svetlana Zhurova commented on the high-profile incident with Moscow Spartak striker Quincy Promes, who was detained in the UAE. The parliamentarian emphasized that the Russian side cannot help the football player, since he is not a citizen of Russia, reports Metaratings.ru.
“We cannot help him, he is not a Russian citizen. He can be deported if the UAE has an agreement with the Netherlands,” the parliamentarian said.
Earlier, a Dutch court sentenced Promes to six years in prison for cocaine smuggling.
In an interview with Duma TV, Svetlana Zhurova noted that, first of all, it is necessary to determine whether the football player violated the law. The parliamentarian noted that from a legal point of view, Russia cannot interfere in the situation, since the football player is not a citizen of our country.
