The Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) is ready to assist in the creation of a new constitution of Syria to ensure inclusiveness of the process, RIA Novosti Secretary General of the Ministry of Railways Martin Chungong said.
“If the IPU is called to assist in the process of creating a constitution, we will be ready to provide our expert level. Because it is extremely important for us that any legitimate constitutional process is as inclusive as possible. As a global organization of parliaments, we have a very important role to make sure that any parliamentary institution that works or will work in Syria was a strong institution representing the will of the people and acting in the interests of the whole community, and not just one group of Syrians, he said “on the sidelines” of the 37th session of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva.
Chungong added that the IPU is currently working with all players of the Syrian conflict and intends to continue to contribute to the settlement process.
