On the first day of his working visit to the Russian Federation, the President of the Assembly met with Vyacheslav Volodin, Speaker of the State Duma, and Valentina Matvienko, Speaker of the Federation Council.

In addition to these issues, discussions with the Speaker of the Federation Council focused on women’s equal participation in public and political life, and tackling violence against women, including through the exchange of good practice via parliamentary hearings.
During the meetings, commitments regarding co-operation with PACE rapporteurs were confirmed.
The Speaker of the Duma, Vyacheslav Volodin, invited the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe to observe the forthcoming parliamentary elections in the Russian Federation, scheduled to take place in September 2021.
