Chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs Leonid Slutsky gave an interview to the Qatar National News Agency QNA in connection with the official state visit of the Emir of Qatar Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.
Leonid Slutsky noted that the partnership between Russia and Qatar Qatar is time-tested and is developing at the highest level. “Russia and Qatar are committed to the values associated with the creation of a multipolar world architecture in the world, peaceful and stable, where there will be a single, indivisible security space, and where each country, no matter how small, its people, traditions, culture, history, religion, national language will be a separate pole of decision-making power in the multipolar architecture of the 21 century,” Leonid Slutsky noted.
Leonid Slutsky added that the visit of the Emir of Qatar to Russia has historical significance in terms of strengthening relations in all areas of interaction. At the same time, the head of the Committee particularly emphasized the mediating role and peacekeeping efforts of Doha in resolving the most difficult issues of modern world politics. “As for humanitarian cooperation and assistance in the so-called peace building, that is, peace building, the role of Qatar cannot be overestimated. Qatar works here, in the forefront of countries on the planet, promotes peace, promotes the preservation of thousands and thousands of people’s lives in different conflict zones, in different countries of the world. And we will fully support Qatar in this noble movement and together with it we will definitely participate in resolving conflicts where our cooperation can be useful for this,” Leonid Slutsky added.
In addition, Leonid Slutsky did not rule out that Qatar may join BRICS in the near future.
“As for the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, it is an integration bloc, the basis of which is, first of all, mutually beneficial economic cooperation. I believe that Qatar’s membership in the SCO has long been ripe. I do not rule out that Qatar will join BRICS and other global integration blocs in the near future,” he specified.
