On the meeting of the Moscow format of consultations on Afghanistan

On October 5, the eighth meeting of the Moscow Format of consultations on Afghanistan took place in Moscow, attended by special representatives and senior officials from Russia, Afghanistan, India, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, China, Pakistan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan. The Afghan delegation was led by Foreign Minister A. Muttaqi. Delegations from Belarus and Egypt attended as guests. The meeting was opened by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, S.V. Lavrov.

The Moscow Format of consultations serves as a respected multilateral platform where regional countries coordinate practical approaches to issues concerning Afghanistan.

During the meeting, participants reaffirmed the necessity of pursuing a course toward building equal and mutually beneficial cooperation with Kabul and facilitating Afghanistan’s integration into the system of international economic ties. They once again called on the international community to ensure the regular provision of humanitarian aid to the Afghan people, emphasizing that such aid must not be politicized.

On the sidelines of the meeting, S.V. Lavrov held a separate meeting with Afghan Foreign Minister A. Muttaqi, during which the parties discussed prospects for developing bilateral cooperation and interaction within international and regional forums.
