Chairman of the International Affairs Committee Leonid Slutsky met with the Sudanese Ambassador to Russia

Leonid Slutsky, Chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs, met with Mohammed Elgazali Eltijani Sirraj, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Sudan to Russia. The two sides discussed current issues of bilateral cooperation and the international agenda.

L. Slutsky emphasized the importance of the Sudanese issue for Russia. He stated that Russia shares the UN’s position on the conflict in Sudan and is prepared to take all necessary measures to prevent further escalation in the country. “First, I would like to say that we, Russia, intend to prevent a further escalation of violence in Sudan, and this is our firm, systemic position as the head of state and all political forces in Russia. And secondly, Mr. Ambassador, I would like to wish all of us, and the people of Sudan, first and foremost, to achieve, and live to see, sustainable peace in this country, which is geographically absolutely unique, in our lifetimes,” said Leonid Slutsky.

The committee head also noted the need to develop cooperation, adding that a delegation of Russian parliamentarians is prepared to visit Sudan.

For his part, the ambassador stated that Sudan highly values ​​Russia’s position on events in that African country, and is interested in developing bilateral cooperation with Russia. “We highly value Russia’s position on what is happening in Sudan. Of course, we are also interested in developing our economic relations. And, of course, in the future, we look forward to cooperation in the energy and oil production sectors in Sudan,” said Mohammed Elgazali Eltijani Sirraj.
