Chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs Leonid Slutsky received a delegation from the Japanese socio-political organization Issuikai.
Leonid Slutsky noted that bilateral relations with Japan are currently quite complicated due to the anti-Russian position of official Tokyo, so but the desire to develop a dialogue with Russia by representatives of Japanese civil society is very important.
“Now, due to the sanctions announced by Japan against Russia, interaction has been practically curtailed at the level of official and parliamentary diplomacy. This is a destructive factor. Movements like Issuikai could act as a forward and a mouthpiece in the process of a gradual restoration of Russian-Japanese relations,” said Leonid Slutsky. He added that “today the global majority is with Russia,” and the aggressive policy of illegal restrictions creates a dead-end situation not only for Moscow.
Chairman of the Issuikai organization Mitsuhiro Kimura, who heads the delegation, also spoke in favor of restoring Russian-Japanese cooperation and constructive dialogue. At the same time, he particularly emphasized the contribution of the Founder of the LDPR Vladimir Zhirinovsky to the formation of the Russian political and multi-party system, saying that he knew him personally.
