Leonid Slutsky held a meeting with the delegation of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey

The State Duma Committee on International Affairs held a meeting with the parliamentary delegation of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, headed by the Chairman of the International Affairs Commission Fuat Oktay. During the discussion, the parties advocated the development of inter-parliamentary ties and strengthening of cooperation.

Chairman of the International Affairs Committee Leonid Slutsky especially emphasized the high level of Russian-Turkish relations, noting the need to expand cooperation at parliamentary venues. In this context, L. Slutsky proposed introducing a format of joint meetings of foreign policy parliamentary committees and holding one of the first in the near future. “I would include in the agenda of the first meeting issues of combating illegal migration, the fight against terrorism, the Syrian settlement, expanding logistics, and cooperation in the fuel and energy sector,” Leonid Slutsky said.

Chairman of the International Affairs Commission of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey Fuat Oktay, in turn, also noted the positive dynamics in bilateral relations between Russia and Turkey, speaking out in favor of their progressive development. “We see positive results, and there are very few countries that have succeeded in this. We are ready to extend this experience to other areas, including inter-parliamentary relations, to the commission on external relations,” Fuat Oktay added. The representative of the Turkish side also touched upon the issues of Ukrainian settlement and emphasized the importance of the negotiation process.
Members of the Committee on International Affairs Zelimkhan Mutsoyev and Maria Butina took part in the meeting from the Russian side.
