The State Duma Committee on International Affairs recommended today at its meeting to ratify Protocols to the Russian-Cuban intergovernmental Agreements on the restructuring of Havana’s debt to Moscow on government loans. The issue was proposed to be submitted to the plenary meeting on March 19.
As noted in the explanatory note, as of March 15, 2023, the total amount of Cuban debt on Russian government loans provided under the Agreements was the equivalent of 209.7 million US dollars (including penalty interest). Repayment of overdue debts, in accordance with the Protocols, will be carried out according to the schedule until 2040 in rubles.
“The implementation of the decisions will not entail negative socio-economic, financial and other consequences, including for subjects of business and other economic activities, and will not have an impact on achieving the goals of state programs of the Russian Federation,” the accompanying documents note.
