The Foreign Affairs Committee recommended ratification of the Russian-Laotian Agreement on Military Cooperation

The International Affairs Committee recommended ratifying the Agreement between the Government of the Russian Federation and the Government of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic on military cooperation at its meeting on April 9. The issue is proposed to be submitted to the State Duma for consideration on May 14.

The medical-legal agreement was signed on August 13, 2024, in Moscow. The document is aimed at developing military cooperation between the states in key areas. In particular, according to the accompanying documents, Russia and Laos will exchange experience in the education and training of military personnel, reform of the armed forces, engineering support for troops, countering improvised explosive devices and their safe demining. The countries also plan to develop relations in the field of military medicine and topography, the study of military history, as well as in the cultural and sports spheres.

The parties are expected to cooperate, including through visits by delegations of various levels, participation in military exercises, training of military personnel and sending specialists for humanitarian demining of territories.
