
On Wednesday, July 23, the State Duma Committee on International Affairs held a meeting chaired by First Deputy Chairperson Svetlana Zhurova with a delegation of Korean women workers led by Kim Jong Sun, head of the Department for Public Organizations of Workers of the Central Committee of the Workers’ Party of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea.
The parties discussed issues of developing bilateral relations, confirming the historical cohesion and mutual support between the peoples of Russia and the DPRK, as well as the importance of strengthening the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Treaty in the context of modern international challenges. Special attention was paid to humanitarian issues, in particular, the development of children’s and school sports within the framework of international projects carried out by the Russian School Sports Federation.
The Russian side expressed interest in opening Russian-language programs at universities in the DPRK as an important step towards developing intercultural communication. Kim Jong Sun expressed gratitude for strengthening the partnership. The DPRK representatives noted the important role of women in strengthening statehood and social development, focused on state support for families and children, and spoke about the programs being implemented in the country in the field of healthcare and child nutrition.
During the discussion, it was especially emphasized that the development of cooperation between women’s organizations in Russia and the DPRK will be an important contribution to strengthening interstate relations, peace and mutual understanding between the peoples of the two countries.
