The State Duma Committee on International Affairs recommended ratifying the Treaty on Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the Russian Federation and the DPRK. The decision was made unanimously.
“The Treaty lays the foundation for a comprehensive strategic partnership between Moscow and Pyongyang based on the principles of mutual respect for state sovereignty and territorial integrity, non-interference in internal affairs, and the desire to establish a fair multipolar world order. “This is the basis for expanding cooperation in all areas of interaction,” said Leonid Slutsky, Chairman of the Committee.
According to him, the Treaty fully takes into account the current geopolitical situation and brings relations between Russia and North Korea to an allied level. “I would especially like to note the peaceful and defensive nature of its provisions. The Treaty is not directed against third countries and does not provide for military alliances, unlike Western agreements. I have no doubt that its ratification will be supported by inter-factional consensus,” Leonid Slutsky added.
The Duma Council submitted the issue for consideration at a plenary session on October 24.
