
On July 25, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov held talks with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic Saleumxay Kommasith on the sidelines of ASEAN ministerial events in Vientiane.
The officials discussed the current status of bilateral relations and their prospects for development. They focused on implementing agreements reached at the highest level, consolidating trade and economic, cultural and humanitarian ties and intensifying joint coordination in international and regional affairs. They noted that Vientiane was effectively chairing the ASEAN.
Following the meeting, the sides signed an agreement between the Government of the Russian Federation and the Government of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic on Cooperation in the Field of Security of and in the Use of Information and Communication Technologies. They also signed a plan of consultations between the Foreign Ministry of the Russian Federation and the Foreign Ministry of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic for 2024–2026.
